Enrolling Students

  • CONSOLIDATION NOTIFICATIONS FOR 2026-2027

    1. Prior to the Thanksgiving break, Principals at Harrison and G.W. Stout notified families of existing students that are on zone exemptions at their school in grades 1st - 4th grade to determine their intent for the 26-27 aschool year.
    2. Notifications were sent to all current 5th and 6th grade students attending G.W. Stout, Jose Barrios, and Harrison Schmitt, to let them know that their zoned School for the upcoming 26-27 school year would be La Plata Middle School.
    3. Also, prior to Thanksgiving notifications were sent via ParentSquare to all families that live outside of Silver Schools district boundaries that are currently attending Silver Scholars and Sixth St, regarding zone exemptions for the 26-27 school year.
    4. Prior to the Christmas break letters will be sent to all students currently enrolled at G.W. Stout, Jose Barrios, Harrison Schmitt, Sixth Street, and Silver Scholars notifying them of which school they will be zoned for in the upcoming 2026-2027 school year.
    5. The Zone Exemption portal is already open for the 26-27 school year. Parents may submit a zone exemption request for each child in their household that they would like to request eligibility to attend a school other than the one whose boundaries they live in.
    6. Zone exemptions will be granted based on a first come, first serve basis up until the designated class loads assigned for the grade level. There is no "family" zone exemption, meaning that each student is looked at individually, there is no sibling preference when it comes to class loads.
    7. Notices of granted zone exemptions will be made as soon as possible after the district has rolled over our school year in our student information system (SIS), PowerSchool. Typically notifications are made beginning at the end of the first week of July. Notifications are made based on the contact information received in the submission and will come from the Director of Technology.
    8. New Student registration for students that are new to Silver Consolidated Schools will be opened on March 1st, 2025. This is not for students who currently attend Silver Schools, but may be changing schools next year.
    9. Returning student registration for current students for the 26-27 school year will be opened on May 1st, 2025. Parents should look for their snap codes in their emails that week.
    • How do I enroll my child at a Silver CSD school?
      • If you’re new here, welcome! All Student registration is done completely online. To enroll at one of our district’s schools, please visit our Registration page to find the link to the Current School year online registration. Please keep in mind that students must attend school within their residential boundaries unless they meet the criteria set by state regulation and district policy. If you have questions about whether your child is eligible to attend a particular Silver CSD school, contact that school’s principal. He or she will be able to guide you through the process of open enrollment.
    • What is the average class size in your schools?
      • Our superintendent works with school principals to establish a reasonable teacher/staff-to-student ratio. In accordance with state requirements, our class loads are as follows:

Elementary – The average class load for kindergarten is 20 students. Any teacher with a class load of 15 to 20 students is entitled to an instructional assistant. The average class load for first, second, and third grades is 22 students, with a provision that first grades with more than 21 students will be provided an instructional assistant. The average for grades four and five should not exceed 24 students. Please note that these are averages amongst all classrooms at each grade level and at each school.

Secondary – The daily teaching load for grades seven through twelve does not exceed 160 students per day, except in English courses. Middle school English classes cannot exceed 135 students, with a maximum of 27 students per class. High school English courses cannot exceed 150 students, with a maximum of 30 students per class. (Districts may exceed the maximums by obtaining an approved waiver filed with the Public Education Department.)

    •

      Do you provide transportation services?
      •

Our Transportation Department provides reliable and safe transportation for eligible students to and from school (and school-related events when they arise). Bus riding is a privilege, and we encourage all participating students to follow the rules we have put in place to ensure the safety of our students and the smooth operation of our buses. Please visit our Transportation page for information regarding bus routes and regulations.
    • What is the dress code at Silver CSD schools?
      • We encourage all students to take pride in their attire as it relates to the school setting. Students should dress in a manner that takes into consideration the educational environment, safety, health, and welfare of self and others. Each of our schools may exceed the district dress code requirements with more specific restrictions or conditions. For detailed information about the dress code at your child’s school or for clarification of the district policy, please contact the individual school.

The following conditions apply to the open enrollment program:

    1. An attendance application must be completed and submitted.
    2. Enrollment is subject to the capacity limit for the school and/or its grade levels.
    3. The parent or legal guardian will be notified whether the application has been accepted, rejected, or put on a waiting list.
